Question: What is a Sub-Domain and how do I find or change mine?
When you sign up for your AresBuilder website, you are asked to choose the "title" as well as "subdomain" name you would like to use for your site. Usually, the sub-domain is the same as the title of your site, but without any spaces or special characters. Often times, spaces are replaced by hyphens or periods. The sub-domain serves as part of the URL people will use to access your site.
For example, if your name was Suzie and you wanted to set up a site about cooking, you might choose to call your site Suzie's Cooking Corner. A good sub-domain name for this site might be suzies-cooking-corner. To access the site, people would navigate to www.suzies-cooking-corner.aresbuilder.com in this example.
To see what your current sub-domain is set to, follow these steps:
2.) The first page you will see after logging in is your dashboard. On this page, you will see all of your owned websites. The sub-domain is listed below the title of your website, as shown in the screen capture below.
To modify your sub-domain, follow these steps:
2.) The first page you will see after logging in is your dashboard. On this page, you will see all of your owned websites. Click on the green "View Control Panel" button to modify the details of your desired site.
3.) On the control panel page, look for the section called "Details." This allows you to change your site's title, sub-domain, description, and custom domain. Simply type in your new desired title and sub-domain in the spaces provided.
Sub-domain names are free when you sign up for an AresBuilder account. If you would like, we do offer you the option to link up your own custom domain to your AresBuilder website for free as well (aside from additional costs incurred by purchasing the domain name from a registrar such as GoDaddy.com or NameCheap.com).
