How To - Set Up A Custom Domain
When you sign up for your AresBuilder website, you are able to choose the "subdomain" name you would like to use for your site. Visitors may navigate to your site by entering http://www.yoursubdomain.aresbuilder.com as the URL in the address bar of their internet browser. If you would like, we do offer you the option to link up your own custom domain (such as yourdomain.com or yourwebsite.net) to your AresBuilder website instead.
Domain names offer a unique identity to your website, and give visitors something shorter and more catchy to remember. Domain names can help increase the visibility, memorability, and success of your online presence. Domain names must be purchased and registered via an online domain name registrar, such as GoDaddy.com or NameCheap.com. The typical domain name costs around $10 to $20 per year to register, and must be renewed each year.
If you already own your own domain name, or have just purchased a new one, the below how to steps and screen shots should help you to apply your domain to your AresBuilder website with ease.
First, login to your AresBuilder.com account. On the main dashboard, click on the green “View Control Panel” button toward the center of the page for the site you wish to apply your new domain name to.
In the “Custom Domain” field, you will need to input the domain name you wish to use, in the following format: "www.yourdomainname.com." Don’t forget to include the “www” prefix and the “.com” or applicable suffix!
Once you are done typing your custom domain, click the green “Save Changes” button at the upper right of the details section, directly across from the word “Details” to save your work.
To finish up the domain linking process, you will next need to visit your domain name registrar’s website (GoDaddy.com, NameCheap.com, etc - whichever you used to purchase your custom domain name.)
Once there, you will need to change the CNAME and enable domain name forwarding so you may point them towards AresBuilder.com. If you need further assistance with this step, your domain registrar should have some additional resources for you.
For example, click here to read GoDaddy.com’s step by step instructions for managing the CNAME for a domain registered through them: http://support.godaddy.com/help/article/7921/adding-or-editing-cname-records
Once these steps are complete, you will be able to tell people to visit www.yourdomainname.com to see your site, or they will still be able to access your site from yoursubdomainname.aresbuilder.com.
